Walk Day Information

Where is the Walk and when does it start?

The Walk will be on Sunday, October 12, 2025, in West Hollywood Park, 647 N San Vicente Blvd, West Hollywood 90069.

9 a.m.: Park opens with activations, food trucks and DJ
10:30 a.m.: Opening Ceremony
11:00 a.m.: Walk begins

Arrive before 10:30 a.m. to meet your team, take your pics, check out our sponsor booths, and get ready to head to the starting line together.

This year’s Walk course is approximately 2 miles. That’s 5,000 total steps, which most people do in about 45 minutes. The Walk will start and end in West Hollywood Park. Please see the map below of the route with directional arrows.

Is there a map of the park?

There will be 18-foot flags (each with a unique number) scattered throughout the park’s viewing area. Choose one flag to use as a wayfinding device and tell your friends/teammates where you’re settled in to meet up!

Backpacks, wagons, and strollers are allowed.

West Hollywood Park does have several picnic tables built into the park itself—if you arrive early, you may be able to snag one for your team to pass out shirts, breakfast, and more! We’ll also have picnic tables on the basketball courts.

How do I get there? Where should I park?

Because of the closures of San Vicente Blvd. (above Melrose Ave.) and Santa Monica Blvd. (between La Cienega Blvd. and Doheny Dr.) for this event, there will be limited parking close to West Hollywood Park. To avoid traffic and parking delays, event participants are encouraged to use alternative modes of transportation such as ride sharing services or Metro.

The Pacific Design Center (PDC) has the largest number of available paid parking spaces adjacent to West Hollywood Park. You can only enter the PDC parking lot for this event using the entrance on the north side of Melrose Ave. between North Huntley Dr. and San Vicente Blvd. The closest GPS address to this entrance is: 8629 Melrose Ave, West Hollywood 90069. PLEASE NOTE that the San Vicente Blvd entrance to the Pacific Design Center will be closed for the duration of this event.

What time does everything happen?

The Opening Ceremony will begin at 10:30 AM, and AIDS Walk will hit the street at 11:15 AM!

What do I do with donations? Where do I pick up my award?

Look for the row of tents near the playground. Stop by our Donations booth to turn in any collected cash, checks, or make a credit card donation that morning. Pick up your free shirt at our T-Shirts booth and visit the Incentives tent to pick up your commemorative pin if you’ve raised $100 or more.

Is it too late to register and fundraise?

If you have not yet registered, take the first step today and register online before you get to West Hollywood Park. We will not have registration available at the event.

Last year we raised over $1.2M for our LGBTQ+ healthcare services, and considering the need has grown this year, we hope to beat that this year. This year’s fundraising deadline is November 7, so it’s definitely not too late to fundraise! If you have donations to turn in or would like to make a donation that morning, please visit our Donation booth in West Hollywood Park.

Will there be food at the event?

We will have water available at the Water tent in the park and at our Checkpoint along the route. There will be snacks available at the tent as well, and we also have food trucks located at the north end of the park. There are ample restaurants and bars in the area—we recommend heading to one of these after you are done Walking for a team lunch!

Is there bike parking?

Yes, West Hollywood Park has bike parking available. We are unable to provide additional bike parking than what is available in the park already.

Can I bring my child? What time will the playground be open?

YES! All ages are welcome! We ask that you prepare to protect your child’s hearing at the Walk, as our stage will be loud. The West Hollywood Park playground will be open at 8AM on Sunday, October 12th.

My school/company is bringing a bus. Where can we drop off?

Please text our office at 213.201.1425 for assistance. If you already RSVP’d, our team will be communicating specific instructions directly via email with you.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes! Dogs are allowed, and we’ve even seen some cats! Please prepare to care for your pet the entire time you are there by packing enough water, snacks, and waste bags for them. Please also be mindful it is generally warm in October—please prepare to take care of their paws on hot asphalt.

Please note that the West Hollywood Dog Park will be CLOSED on Sunday from 6AM – 2PM.

What is the difference between volunteering and registering to walk?

The difference between volunteering with our event and walking with our event is a matter of what activity you choose to do on October 12.

Volunteering includes passing out water, picking up trash, encouraging people along the route, and other logistics! You do not need to register for AIDS Walk to volunteer, though we appreciate when you do! To register, please click “Register” in the menu above.

To volunteer, please fill out this form by October 7: Volunteer Registration Form

Registering means being counted. We cannot say for certain how many people show up on October 12, but we can say for certain how many people registered in support of ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Most people who register for AWLA choose to fundraise and then walk our route. Some community members who cannot physically Walk the route will still choose to register/fundraise and then volunteer (pass out water, etc.) on the day of instead.

Both can fulfill community service hours! If you are interested in volunteering specifically (i.e. not walking the route but providing assistance on October 12), please fill out this form: Volunteer Registration Form

Event Information and Participation

When is AIDS Walk Los Angeles?

Sunday, October 12 at West Hollywood Park.

9 a.m.: Park opens with activations, food trucks and DJ
10:30 a.m.: Opening Ceremony
11:00 a.m.: Walk begins

What is AIDS Walk Los Angeles?

AIDS Walk Los Angeles is a community-driven fundraiser organized by APLA Health to fight HIV/AIDS through LGBTQ+ healthcare; sexual health services; food, housing, and support for people with HIV; and local partner organizations.

What does APLA Health do?

We provide affirming healthcare, HIV specialty care, food, housing, and support services to underserved communities. Formerly AIDS Project Los Angeles, we’ve supported people affected by HIV/AIDS since 1983.

Where do my donations go?

AIDS Walk Los Angeles donations go to support APLA Health’s vital services for over 22,000 people throughout Los Angeles County. Unlike grant funding that must be used for designated purposes, your donations give us flexibility to meet urgent community needs quickly.

Is there a minimum to participate?

No, there’s no fundraising minimum. We welcome everyone to join us to help raise awareness that the HIV/AIDS epidemic is not over.

How do I get a T-shirt?

All walkers get a commemorative T-shirt at the park, while supplies last. Raise $1,000+ to receive a Star Walker shirt—mailed early if you qualify by September 20, or available at the Incentives tent on Walk day.

I can’t access my account.

Use your existing login from any AIDS Walk Los Angeles event since 2020. If needed, reset your password. Still stuck? Text 213.201.9255 or email aidswalkla@aplahealth.org.

Why do I have to re-register each year?

We need your renewed consent to participate. Some profile info (like donor history) carries over, but you must re-register annually.

I signed up as an individual. Can I become a Team Captain?

Yes! Just email us at aidswalkla@aplahealth.org with your new team name.

Does this count for community service hours at school?

Yes, fundraising and walking count at most schools. Sign in at the Volunteers tent on Walk day to document your hours. School advisors can contact Brian Sharp at bsharp@aplahealth.org with questions.

What is Kids Who Care?

It’s our youth leadership program for middle and high school students. Learn more on the Kids Who Care program page.

I got an error when registering or donating.

Take a screenshot and text or email us. We’ll help fix it quickly.

How many people make a team?

Just two! Teams range from small groups to over 100 walkers, often representing schools, businesses, or families. Walking for someone or raising awareness? Start a team!

Do I need to register everyone on my team?

It helps! Registered members receive special updates, it ensures we track funds accurately, and team leaders can request spreadsheets of their roster and donations.

My group is bringing a bus. Where can we drop off?
You must notify us if your group is arriving via bus by completing this RSVP form by Tuesday, September 30: Bus Drop-Off Form
How do I sign up to volunteer?
Volunteering includes passing out water, picking up trash, encouraging people along the route, and other logistics. To volunteer, please fill out this form by Tuesday, October 7: Volunteer Registration Form

Donation and Fundraising Information

How do I start fundraising?

Start by donating to yourself—it sets the tone and encourages others to match or exceed your gift.

Then:

  • Share your story. Let people know why supporting AIDS Walk Los Angeles matters to you.
  • Reach out individually. Personal messages go a long way.
  • Use multiple platforms. Text, email, Instagram, TikTok—whatever works for your community.
  • Create space for conversation. Host a Walk-day breakfast, organize a wellness talk—anything that sparks dialogue.

Fundraising is about more than money—it’s about awareness, connection, and action.

When is the donation deadline?

You have until Friday, November 7 to turn in donations and qualify for fundraising awards like Star Walker status.

To whom should donations be made out? Where do I send my check?

Make checks payable to “AIDS Walk Los Angeles.”
Include the walker or team name in the memo line or on a note.

Mail checks to:
AIDS Walk Los Angeles
611 S Kingsley Dr
Los Angeles, CA 90005

To turn in cash, text 213.201.9255 to make an appointment.

How do I make sure a check counts toward my goal?
  1. Snap a photo of the check and email or text it to us with “PLEASE ENTER THIS CHECK FOR ME/MY TEAM.”
  2. Specify where it should be credited—to you, your team, or the general event.
  3. Mail the check with the same details in the memo.

Checks may take up to two weeks to appear in your fundraising total.

What if a check is made out to me personally?

Void the check and ask the donor to write a new one to AIDS Walk Los Angeles. Text 213.201.9255 if you need help.

Are donations tax deductible?

Yes. APLA Health is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, tax ID: 84-1661910. No goods or services are provided in exchange for donations.

Will I receive a receipt?

Yes. Online donors receive an automatic email receipt.
Donating by cash or check? Contact us at aidswalkla@aplahealth.org to request one.

Should I donate to someone collecting in public spaces?

Online donations are safest and easiest. If you meet someone collecting in person:

  • Check that they’re a registered walker or team via our website.
  • If anything feels off, contact us for guidance.
What is a Matching Gift?

Some employers will match your donation 1:1—doubling your impact. Ask your company or HR department. You can also ask friends or family to match your donations as a mini-challenge.

What is the Star Walkers Club?

Raise $1,000 or more and you’ll join this group of outstanding fundraisers.

Benefits include:

  • A star with your name on our Walk of Fame on the day of the event.
  • A special Star Walker shirt and pin.
  • A plaque recognizing your achievement.
What if I raise $1,000 but didn’t sign up for the Star Walkers Club?

You’ll still earn Star Walker recognition! We track all qualifying fundraisers automatically.

What is a fundraising award?

Awards are our way of saying thank you for reaching fundraising milestones. This year:

  • $100+: commemorative pin
  • $1,000+: Star Walker shirt, Walk of Fame star, plaque

When registering, you can choose whether to accept or decline these awards—every dollar raised supports care for our community.
