the AIDS Walk Los Angeles story

Everything you need to know about the Walk that started it all.

aids walk los angeles

AIDS Walk Los Angeles began in 1985 as the world’s first walk dedicated to raising funds and demanding action in response to the AIDS crisis. Activists, people with HIV, advocates, and allies took to the streets of Los Angeles to call attention to an epidemic that government leaders had failed to address.

Since 1985, hundreds of thousands of walkers and supporters have raised nearly $100 million in support of HIV care, prevention, housing, food, and other essential services. Today, funds raised through AIDS Walk Los Angeles help APLA Health serve more than 23,000 people across Los Angeles County.

This year, we return to the streets under a clear message: DEFEND CARE. DEMAND ACTION. More than 40 years after the first walk, mobilizing still matters.
